Brighton & Hove Albion manager Fabian Hurzeler is hopeful Ferdi Kadioglu will be available for Thursday's Europa Conference League match against Getafe. The defender missed the 1-0 Premier League win at Manchester City but has an extra day to prove his fitness.
"He trained yesterday but he still felt it and therefore we had to make a decision afterwards that it doesn't make sense," Hurzeler said. "Hopefully now he can recover in the next few days."
The manager also praised his squad's reaction after their Carabao Cup exit to the same opponents just days earlier. "We were sitting in the locker room on Wednesday with a disappointing feeling because going out in a penalty shoot-out is brutal," he explained. "It's the worst way to lose a match. We promised ourselves on Saturday that we don't want to have the same feeling."
Conference League context
Brighton travel to the Coliseum for a League Stage match in the competition, kicking off at 20:00 local time on Thursday. The Seagulls' recent form has been mixed, with that vital win at the Etihad preceded by a goalless draw away to FK Jablonec in Europe. They sit 12th in the Premier League standings with 14 points from 10 games.
Getafe, managed by José Bordalás, are coming off a 3-1 home win against Sevilla in La Liga. Their European form has been less convincing, including a 5-2 home defeat to FC Lugano in their last Conference League outing. Brighton's last starting lineup featured Bart Verbruggen in goal, with a back four of Costinha, Luka Vušković, captain Lewis Dunk and Olivier Boscagli.
A positive result in Spain would provide a strong platform before a return to domestic action. Brighton's next Premier League fixture is at home to Aston Villa on Sunday, 8 November. The full schedule of upcoming games is on the club's fixtures page.
