Brighton & Hove Albion goalkeeper Bart Verbruggen has directly addressed and dismissed speculation linking him with a move to La Liga. The 22-year-old Dutch international reaffirmed his commitment to the club ahead of Thursday's Conference League match against Getafe. His focus is on maintaining a strong league position, with the team currently third on 19 points after six wins, one draw and two defeats.
"I don't know what will happen in the future. No one knows," Verbruggen said.
He made the comments during media duties with head coach Fabian Hurzeler before the trip to Spain. The fixture marks Brighton's fifth consecutive away game, a run Verbruggen noted has been physically demanding but has strengthened team bonds.
Key role in strong season
Verbruggen's focus remains on contributing to a Brighton side sitting third in the Premier League with 19 points from nine games. The team's recent form over the last five matches shows two wins, two draws and one defeat. The Seagulls' form, which includes a recent 1-0 win away at Manchester City, has them firmly in the European conversation, just five points behind the leaders Arsenal. The side has scored 24 goals while conceding only seven, giving them a goal difference of plus seventeen. The team's top scorer this season is C. Kostoulas with three goals.
The goalkeeper joined Brighton from Anderlecht in 2023 for a reported £15 million and is under contract until 2028. He has made 118 appearances for the club, keeping 35 clean sheets.
Looking ahead, Brighton return to Premier League action on Sunday with a home game against Brentford, who are sixth in the table. That match takes place on Sunday 8 November. Verbruggen concluded by stating he is simply looking forward to the Getafe match and the rest of the campaign with Brighton.
