Brighton & Hove Albion have loaned out teenage winger Yoon Do-young to German side Magdeburg. The 19-year-old South Korean player will wear the blue and white stripes of the second-tier German outfit for the coming season.
What happened?
Yoon gained valuable experience at Dordrecht in the second half of last season in the Dutch second tier, having struggled for game time at Excelsior Rotterdam. He made his name in his homeland with Daejeon Hana Citizen.
Why it matters for Brighton & Hove Albion
Albion technical director Mike Cave said: “Yoon got his first taste of European football last season in the Netherlands and we want him to build on that experience.” With Brighton & Hove Albion currently sitting 8th in the Premier League with 53 points, 32 points behind leaders Arsenal, and a recent form of LLWLW, the team is looking to develop young players like Yoon.
What comes next?
Do-young said: “After my time in the Netherlands, it is important for me to be back on the pitch regularly and to take the next step in my career.” Magdeburg’s sporting director Peer Jaekel said: “Do-young is an extremely talented player whose dynamism, pace, and attacking qualities perfectly fit our requirements.” As Brighton & Hove Albion looks to the future, the loan deal will provide Yoon with the opportunity to gain valuable playing experience at a high level in German professional football, with the team having scored 52 goals and conceded 46 goals this season, resulting in a +6 goal difference.
