Brighton & Hove Albion complete loan signing of Promise David with £22m obligation
Brighton & Hove Albion have secured the season-long loan signing of Canada striker Promise David from Royale Union Saint-Gilloise, with a £22m obligation to buy. The 25-year-old arrives after netting 41 goals in 82 appearances for the Belgian side since joining in 2024.
Who is Promise David?
David began his career in Canada before moving to Croatia, the United States, and Malta. He later joined Estonian side Nomme Kalju before his move to Royale Union Saint-Gilloise. The striker featured in four of Canada’s five World Cup fixtures, scoring against Switzerland in a 2-1 group stage defeat.
Why did Brighton sign him?
Brighton’s sporting director Mike Cave praised David’s physical attributes and goal-scoring record. "Promise is someone we have been watching for some time," Cave said. "He is an out-and-out striker who possesses outstanding physical attributes and a track record of scoring goals."
What’s next for Brighton?
Brighton face Tromso in the Europa Conference League play-offs on Thursday before starting their Premier League season at Aston Villa on Sunday. Last season, they finished 8th in the Premier League with 53 points, scoring 52 goals and conceding 46. Currently, Evan Ferguson, Yankuba Minteh, Carlos Baleba, and Matt O’Riley are sidelined.
