Brighton & Hove Albion have reached an agreement to sign Tottenham's Luka Vušković, with the deal worth up to £50m.

What happened?

The Seagulls have been busy in the transfer market, and this signing comes after they saw their opening £30m bid rejected by Spurs, who signed Brighton defender Jan Paul van Hecke for £52m last week.

Vušković, currently on international duty at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, will swap Tottenham Hotspur for Brighton and Hove Albion, after starring on loan for Bundesliga returnees Hamburg last season.

Why it matters for Brighton & Hove Albion

The 19-year-old Croatian central defender broke the Bundesliga record for aerial duels won in a single match with 18 away to Union Berlin, and was named in Get German Football News' Team of the Season.

Brighton, currently 8th in the Premier League with 53 points from 38 games, and a recent form of LLWLW, will be looking to strengthen their defense with this signing, having scored 52 goals and conceded 46 this season, with a goal difference of +6.

What comes next?

The signing of Vušković is a significant boost to Brighton's squad, and they will be hoping to close the 32-point gap behind leaders Arsenal, as they look to improve their position in the league. With the transfer window still open, Brighton & Hove Albion fans will be eager to see what other signings the club can make to strengthen their team, as they look to build on their current momentum, and make a push for a higher finish in the Premier League.
