Brighton & Hove Albion winger Tommy Watson joins Leicester City on loan
Brighton & Hove Albion winger Tommy Watson has agreed a season-long loan move to Leicester City, Football Insider reports. The 20-year-old will spend the 2026-27 campaign with the Foxes, who beat off competition from several Championship clubs to secure his signature.
Why did Leicester City target Watson?
Leicester manager Russell Martin has been keen to bolster his wide options after losing key players this summer. Watson, who spent the second half of last season on loan at Millwall, fits Martin's system and provides much-needed depth. Brighton still see the youngster as part of their long-term plans, with three years remaining on his contract.
What does this mean for Brighton & Hove Albion?
The Seagulls, who finished 8th in the Premier League last season with 53 points (14W-11D-13L), view this loan as beneficial for Watson's development. After scoring 52 goals and conceding 46 in 2025-26, Brighton believe regular first-team minutes at Leicester will aid his progression. Meanwhile, Zadok Yohanna remains sidelined for the club.
Which clubs missed out on Watson?
Leicester saw off interest from Championship sides including West Ham, West Brom, and Preston North End. Derby County had also expressed interest in the winger, but the Foxes moved quickly to secure the deal ahead of the new season.
