Brighton & Hove Albion are working on a deal to sign 33-year-old Swiss midfielder Lia Walti from Juventus. Walti has completed a medical and the clubs are in positive negotiations, though the transfer has not yet been finalized.
Walti will return to the Women’s Super League after a successful spell with Juventus, where she won the Supercoppa Italiana and the maiden Serie A Women’s Cup under head coach Massimiliano Canzi.
The signing would be Brighton’s first summer move and would signal the club’s intent to establish itself among the WSL’s leading teams. It would also add significant experience and leadership to Dario Vidosic’s side, as Walti has over 120 international caps for Switzerland and is known as a natural leader on and off the pitch.
Brighton currently have several key players sidelined, including K. Mitoma, S. Tzimas, A. Webster and M. Wieffer. The club has also unveiled plans for a purpose-built women’s stadium, the first of its kind in Europe, which would further support the squad’s growth.
Other recent roster changes include Rosa Kafaji returning to Arsenal, Sophie Baggaley leaving the club, and Libby Bance also departing.
Walti’s arrival would give Brighton a boost as they look to build on their success from last season.
