Brighton & Hove Albion are celebrating their 125th birthday. The club was formed in 1898 at the Seven Stars pub in central Brighton.

What happened?

The club started life at the County Ground in Hove and enjoyed their first taste of success in a Test match. They have put together quite an innings since then and the latest landmark will be celebrated today.

Why it matters for Brighton & Hove Albion

John Jackson, who had been involved with a couple of Brighton clubs, was the driving force behind what was initially Brighton and Hove United. That was changed to Albion a month later after complaints from Hove FC. One theory is that Jackson, a Midlander, had been involved with West Bromwich Albion.
