A Record Signing
Brighton & Hove Albion have signed 23-year-old forward Emily Murphy from Newcastle United Women for an undisclosed club-record fee. Murphy, who scored nine goals in 37 appearances for the Magpies last season, joins the Seagulls ahead of the new Women’s Super League campaign.
The transfer was completed after Murphy’s move from Wake Forest Demon Deacons to Newcastle in January 2025. She was recognised for her community work, earning the PFA Community Champion award during her time in the North East.
The club thanked Murphy for her contributions and wished her well for the future.
Murphy’s Impact
Murphy’s goal-scoring record includes a brace against Sunderland at St. James’ Park last season, proving she can perform in high-profile matches. Her experience in the Women’s Super League and her proven ability to find the net make her a valuable addition to Brighton’s attacking options.
Newcastle United Women received a club-record fee for the forward, allowing the Magpies to reinvest in the squad.
Brighton’s Ambitions
Brighton finished 8th in the Premier League last season with 53 points, scoring 52 goals and conceding 46. The Seagulls ended the campaign with 14 wins, 11 draws and 13 losses, leaving a 32-point gap to leaders Arsenal.
With Murphy’s arrival, Brighton aims to strengthen its attack and push for a higher finish. The club will look to close the gap to European qualification as the new season approaches.
