Brighton & Hove Albion delivered a stunning performance to defeat Arsenal 3-0 in the Premier League on Saturday. The comprehensive victory at the Amex Stadium lifts the Seagulls to sixth in the table with seven points from their opening four matches.
Pascal Groß opened the scoring in the 31st minute, finishing a move he started with Charalampos Kostoulas. Kostoulas then doubled the lead on the stroke of half-time, converting a pass from Diego Gomez. Chema Andrés sealed the three points 12 minutes after the restart, tapping in after Groß turned provider.
Manager F. Hürzeler set his side up in a 4-2-3-1 formation, with Bart Verbruggen in goal behind a back four of Ferdi Kadıoğlu, Luka Vušković, Pascal Struijk and Olivier Boscagli. Despite having only 40 percent of possession, Brighton were clinical, registering 17 shots with five on target compared to Arsenal's 11 efforts.
The win extends Brighton's winning run to three games across all competitions, following victories over Manchester United and Coventry City. They now sit just five points behind league leaders Arsenal. Brighton's recent form shows they have won three of their last four league games, scoring nine goals in the process. Their next fixture is an away trip to face Sunderland on 10 October.
Brighton's discipline was tested, with Kostoulas, Kadıoğlu, Struijk and Maxim De Cuyper all receiving yellow cards. Arsenal's only booking went to Declan Rice deep into stoppage time. Hürzeler made five substitutions in the second half, introducing Costinha, Georginio Rutter, Malick Yalcouyé, Matt O'Riley and Michael Svoboda to see out the game.
The result provides a major boost ahead of the international break. The full squad list, including several players currently sidelined, is available online.
