Brighton & Hove Albion marked their 125th anniversary with a commanding 3-0 victory over Arsenal at the Amex Stadium. The win, secured with goals from Pascal Groß, Charalampos Kostoulas and Chema Andrés, was witnessed by a record crowd of 31,944.

Fabian Hurzeler managed the side for the anniversary fixture. "It was a special one, not only because we played against maybe the best team in England but because of the performance," Hurzeler said.

The result continues a strong start to the season, with the Seagulls now sitting third in the Premier League on 10 points after five games. The club's recent form shows three wins from their last five outings, including a dramatic 3-2 comeback at Manchester United.

From Goldstone to the Amex

Founded in 1901, Brighton were elected to the Football League in 1920 and first reached the top flight in 1979. Financial difficulties led to the sale of the Goldstone Ground in 1995, forcing the club to play outside the city for several years. A return to Brighton at the Withdean Stadium came in 1999.

Tony Bloom's arrival as chairman in 2009 proved major, masterminding the move to the American Express Stadium. The club's average attendance now regularly exceeds 31,000, a far cry from the struggles of the 1990s. The current recruitment model, focused on identifying and developing talent, has established Brighton as a stable, European-competing side.

Goals seal the celebration

On the pitch, the anniversary performance was comprehensive. Pascal Groß opened the scoring in the 31st minute, finishing an assist from Kostoulas. The Greek forward then turned scorer just before half-time, converting a Diego Gomez pass. Chema Andrés put the result beyond doubt in the 57th minute, with Groß providing the assist.

Groß is the team's top scorer this season with three goals, a key figure in an attack that has netted 16 times in five league games. The squad faces some selection challenges, however, with Evan Ferguson, Kaoru Mitoma and Mats Wieffer among those currently sidelined. The full injuries list is available.
