Brighton & Hove Albion chairman Tony Bloom has hailed the club's recent performances as potentially the best in its history while outlining the reasoning behind a busy summer transfer window. The Seagulls sit third in the Premier League standings with 10 points from five games ahead of a demanding run of fixtures.
Bloom, speaking on the Albion Unlimited podcast, pointed to the 5-0 win at Coventry, the 3-2 victory at Manchester United and the 3-0 home triumph against Arsenal as a landmark sequence. "The last three games have probably been the best in the history of the football club," he said. "The performance and result against Arsenal, arguably the best." This form, which includes scoring 11 goals across those three matches, comes as the team prepares for a congested schedule that includes Europa Conference League commitments. The club's detailed stats reflect the attacking output that has driven this successful period.
With the team also competing in Europe, Bloom confirmed the club acted to bolster the squad after a spate of injuries. "During the month of August we had 10 injuries and knowing that we've got Europe as well, we just needed to make sure we had enough numbers," he explained. Brighton brought in eight players: Luka Vuskovic, Pascal Struijk, Costinha, Hadjam, Michale Svoboda, Chema Andres, Zadok Yohanna, and Femi Azeez.
Injury concerns for busy schedule
That recruitment drive comes amid a significant injury list that includes Yankuba Minteh, Kaoru Mitoma, new signing Yohanna, fellow arrival Azeez, Georginio, Mats Wieffer, and Jack Hinshelwood. The full extent of the current injuries presents a major challenge as the schedule intensifies. Bloom acknowledged the specific difficulty of the schedule after the international break, which includes Thursday night European games followed by Sunday Premier League matches. "We know how difficult it is, playing the Thursday night and then Sunday afternoon," he said.
The chairman expressed confidence in the squad's preparedness for the coming fixtures. "We're a bit more used to it as a club," Bloom stated. "We know what the schedule's like, we know after the international break what a tough run of fixtures we've got, but I think we are fully prepared for it." He also highlighted the Conference League as a winnable tournament for the club, emphasizing the strategic planning behind the summer's business.
Brighton resume their campaign with a Premier League trip to face 14th-placed Sunderland on Saturday, aiming to maintain a start that has seen them average two points per game. Bloom concluded by urging perspective, adding, "So, we're all really happy, but it is just the start, and we've got a long, long season ahead of us."
