Espanyol in talks to sign Brighton & Hove Albion defender Igor
La Liga club Espanyol is reportedly in talks to sign Brighton & Hove Albion defender Igor, who had a disappointing season on loan at West Ham United. The 28-year-old Brazilian stopper was farmed out to the Hammers for the duration of the campaign but was cut short in January due to a lack of game time.
Why it matters for Brighton & Hove Albion
The Seagulls are expected to lose Igor once again before the summer is out, and Espanyol's interest in the defender could be a major blow to the club's backline. Igor's performances in Italy have been impressive, and Espanyol are understood to have earmarked him as a leading target for reinforcements at the heart of defence.
What comes next?
As per a report from market insider Matteo Moretto, Espanyol are negotiating for Igor Julio, from Brighton. The club's board are understood to be keen on signing the defender, who is still appreciated for his fine performances whilst in Italy. With the transfer window set to open soon, it remains to be seen whether Espanyol will be able to secure Igor's signature.
