Brighton & Hove Albion have signed teenage striker George Munday from Cambridge United. Munday, 19, has penned a two-year contract for undisclosed terms. He joins a squad who won the Premier League 2 title last season. The young striker arrives from Cambridge United but spent the second half of last season on loan at Hereford in National League North. He scored nine times in 22 games as Hereford avoided the drop on goal difference. Shannon Ruth, the under-21s head coach, said: “George had an excellent second half of the season with Hereford, having previously made his professional debut for Cambridge United.” Munday has been with Cambridge since the age of nine and progressed through the academy. He had loans with St Ives Town and Bedford Town before finding his goalscoring touch to keep Hereford up. Albion and Hereford have historic links dating back to their meeting at Edgar Street to decide which team slipped out of the Football League in the 1996-97 season. The Seagulls survived and their subsequent rise was notable. Munday's signing is a boost to the under-21s squad, who will look to build on their successful season. With his experience of playing in high stakes matches, Munday will be an asset to the team. The details of the transfer were not disclosed, but the signing is seen as a positive move for the club.
