Brighton & Hove Albion have announced that Jason Ayto, the club's Sporting Director, has left the club after just nine months. This comes as a shock to the Amex, where fans had braced themselves for the oncoming summer transfer window. Ayto was brought in to sit alongside the recruitment staff and board ahead of a window that was going to be one of the biggest in recent Albion history. The Seagulls are expecting significant turnover, with both young and older players departing the club. It is no secret that the likes of Solly March, Joel Veltman, Jan Paul Van Hecke, and James Milner will not play for Brighton next season. The only dubious one here is arguably Van Hecke. Only a couple of days ago, fans had braced themselves for the oncoming window, and a big part of that was Ayto. Arsenal fans had warned Brighton fans about Ayto. They claimed that he didn't have long in charge at the club, but when the opportunity came to make big decisions in the window, he ultimately didn't get them over the line. This was the winter transfer window before Arsenal 'bottled' the league. The Gunners noticeably needed strength in depth to compete with Manchester City and struggled to get any major deal over the line. This resulted in Ayto's departure, before his move to the South Coast. While we are in the dark on any official news on what could have happened, we continue to wait for further explanation, which, of course, fans deserve. The question marks were in mind from the get-go, but it seems as though time is already up for Mr Ayto.
